Looking for the most talked-about restaurants in Östermalm right now? Here are three places setting the agenda for Stockholm’s dining scene in 2026.
Östermalm has always been at the forefront of Stockholm’s restaurant scene. It is a neighbourhood that attracts chefs with ambition and guests with high expectations. But right now something extra is happening around Stureplan. New energy, new kitchens and a grill-focused movement that has taken over the whole area.
Many who live in or rent an apartment in Östermalm point to the access to Stockholm’s sharpest restaurant scene as one of the neighbourhood’s greatest advantages. It is not hard to understand why when you look at what has opened in recent months.
Here are the three restaurants everyone is talking about right now.
Sperling & Co
Sperling & Co opened in October 2025 and has not had a free table since. The restaurant on Sturegatan 6 is run by Michael Andersson, winner of Sweden’s Chef of the Year 2024 and former head chef at the Michelin-awarded Celeste. It is a restaurant with serious credentials behind it from day one.
The concept is straightforward and well executed. The grill is at the centre. High-quality cuts are cooked over open embers, ranging from classic and familiar pieces to more unusual selections sourced from Uruguay, Scotland and Finland. The menu moves freely between origins and techniques, giving each visit a slightly different character.
The interior is dark and warm, spread across two floors with an open kitchen and a generous bar. It is the kind of restaurant that feels like it has always belonged on that address, despite being relatively new.
Our recommendation is to ask the staff to guide your choice of cut for the evening. They tend to have a favourite among the week’s deliveries and it is worth listening to. Book well in advance.
Address: Sturegatan 6, 114 35 Stockholm Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 16:00 until late, Friday 11:30 to 14:00 and 16:00 until late, Saturday to Sunday 16:00 until late Website: sperlingco.se
Restaurang Hantverket
Hantverket on Sturegatan 15 is the restaurant that always comes up in conversations about Östermalm, and for good reason. It sits a short walk from Stureplan and Humlegården and has established itself as one of the neighbourhood’s most reliable addresses for Swedish food with European influences.
The kitchen is led by head chef Stefan Ekengren and works with carefully selected seasonal ingredients from local Swedish producers. The dishes are not divided into starters and main courses in the traditional sense but are instead composed together according to your preference. It is a flexible and generous way to eat.
The signature dish that everyone mentions is the hasselback potato with bleak roe, smetana and spring onion. It is the one we always recommend starting with. Small, simple and extraordinary. The thinly sliced raw beef with Jerusalem artichoke, gruyère and hazelnuts is another dish that stays with you long after the evening is over.
The seats at the food bar around the open kitchen cannot be booked and are open for walk-ins. That is a useful tip if you have not managed to secure a table reservation in time.
Address: Sturegatan 15, 114 36 Stockholm Phone: 08-12 13 21 60 Opening hours: Monday to Tuesday 11:30 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 23:00, Wednesday to Thursday 11:30 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 24:00, Friday 11:30 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 01:00, Saturday 17:00 to 01:00, Sunday closed Website: restauranghantverket.se
Emberlin
Emberlin is arguably the most anticipated restaurant opening in Sweden this year. Björn Frantzén, the only chef in the world running three restaurants each holding three Michelin stars, opens his third Stockholm restaurant at Stureplan 8 in July 2026.
The concept is a modern grill restaurant built around open-fire cooking. The menu draws inspiration from both Asia and North America, starting with raw dishes from a dedicated raw bar featuring crudos, sashimi and sushi, followed by grilled meat, fish, seafood, poultry and vegetables cooked over embers. Dessert includes, among other things, a tableside ice cream trolley.
The atmosphere is set to be lively and the bar well stocked, with a space designed for guests to stay late into the evening. It is an ambition the Frantzén Group consistently delivers on across everything they do.
Our recommendation is to book a table as soon as the reservation system opens. This is the kind of opening that fills up quickly and it is not the restaurant you want to arrive at without a booking.
