What we always order is the baked egg with gruyère and prosciutto. It looks simple on the menu but delivers in a way you don’t quite expect. If you’re just after a pastry, the cardamom bun is a safe and very good choice.

Bergstrands Bageri
Bergstrands on Frejgatan 46a is the artisan bakery that neighbours in Vasastan talk about with a noticeable pride. The Bergstrand family started on the island of Utö in the Stockholm archipelago and moved into the city in 2019. Everything is baked from scratch using carefully sourced ingredients, and the selection changes with the seasons. White Guide has awarded them ”Very Fine Level”.
Our recommendation is the tosca bun, buttery and rich with vanilla, topped with a generous layer of toasted nuts. The semlor are also worth a special visit during the season and are considered among the best in Stockholm.
The queue often stretches out the door on weekend mornings. That is a good sign.

Ritorno Konditori
Ritorno on Odengatan 80 opened in 1959 and has preserved almost exactly the same feel ever since. Yellow walls, red chairs and crystal chandeliers in the ceiling. It is classic konditori in its purest form, and everything is baked in their own bakery on Torsgatan.
The outdoor terrace facing Vasaparken is one of the better ones in the neighbourhood. In summer, from around 17.00 onwards, the sun falls directly on the tables along the park. It is one of the best tips you can give someone who is new to Vasastan.
We recommend a classic semla in season or one of their own pastries for an afternoon coffee. The evening menu with a full drinks licence is also worth knowing about.
