Restaurants in Vasastan – Flavours You Don’t Want to Miss

Over the past few years, Vasastan has grown into one of Stockholm’s most vibrant food districts — a neighbourhood where charming local bistros meet trendy new openings and timeless classics. With flavours around every corner, we can promise there is something here for everyone. In Vasastan, you never have to walk far to discover your next favourite restaurant.

In this guide, we’ve gathered some of the area’s best restaurant recommendations. Places that make life in Vasastan both tastier and more enjoyable.

Rolfs Kök – Tegnérgatan 41

A truly excellent neighbourhood restaurant known for its well-crafted bistro cuisine and outstanding service. Here, you are welcomed into a lively atmosphere with warm and attentive staff. The menu is built around Swedish and European flavours prepared with high-quality ingredients and confidence, without becoming overly experimental. It is a relaxed place that works just as well for a spontaneous dinner as for a more refined evening out. The combination of atmosphere and food has made Rolfs Kök a modern Stockholm classic.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 11:30 AM–12:00 AM/1:00 AM, Saturday–Sunday, 4:30 PM–12:00 AM/1:00 AM.

Knut – Upplandsgatan 17

Knut on Upplandsgatan offers authentic northern Swedish cuisine in a setting that feels like stepping into a modern mountain lodge, complete with cosy wooden interiors. A weekday lunch menu is served between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, alongside an impressive à la carte selection of starters, main courses and desserts.

The menu is broad and full of northern Swedish specialities. Guests can choose from elk, reindeer, fish, Västerbotten cheese pizza, the famous Norrland platter and much more.

Opening hours: Monday–Thursday, 11:00 AM–11:00 PM, Friday, 11:00 AM–12:00 AM/1:00 AM, Saturday, 5:00 PM–12:00 AM/1:00 AM. Closed Sundays.

Bun Bo Hue – Sankt Eriksgatan 124

A family-owned and genuinely authentic Vietnamese restaurant. The space is small and simply decorated, but that is part of the charm. Here, you are met with personal service, and many say Bun Bo Hue serves Stockholm’s best Vietnamese soup.

The menu features around 25 dishes, including several vegan options. Flavour is the clear focus, with traditional noodle and rice dishes alongside crispy spring rolls and rich soups. The restaurant consistently receives outstanding reviews, and we can only agree — this is one of Stockholm’s best Vietnamese restaurants.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM–10:00 PM, Saturday–Sunday, 12:00 PM–10:00 PM.

Svartengrens – Tulegatan 24

Some restaurants are popular because they are trendy. Then there is Svartengrens. The difference is that people return here again and again because the food genuinely is that good.

The concept is simple yet carefully thought out. The meat comes from small farms in the Stockholm archipelago, is dry-aged on-site, and served in what was once an old pharmacy. The raw, industrial-style dining room on the corner of Tulegatan and Surbrunnsgatan has a character that feels authentic rather than staged.

What should you order? The hanger steak is our clear favourite. It is a cut you do not often see on menus, but when prepared correctly it delivers incredible depth of flavour and tenderness. Pair it with the house fries and one of their signature cocktails from the bar for a memorable evening.

The bar itself is an experience. Everything is made from scratch, right down to the hand-cut ice in the glasses.

Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 5:00 PM–11:00 PM. Closed Mondays.

Tranan – Karlbergsvägen 24

It is 1929. A simple restaurant opens on Karlbergsvägen by Odenplan. That thought is difficult to fully grasp when sitting here today, because Tranan somehow feels just as relevant now as it probably did back then.

This is a neighbourhood restaurant in the very best sense of the word. Expect beautifully prepared food and a warm atmosphere that cannot be artificially designed — you can genuinely feel that people enjoy spending time here.

The menu revolves around Swedish comfort food with French influences. Toast Skagen, steak tartare and fried herring are long-standing classics, alongside seasonal dishes that change throughout the year. Then there are the meatballs. They are not listed on the menu, but if you ask, you may be served Stockholm’s most famous meatballs with perfectly creamy mashed potatoes and lingonberries. That is our recommendation, especially for a first visit.

Right next door you will also find the wine bar Grus Grus and Tranans Bar downstairs if you want to continue the evening.

Opening hours: Monday–Thursday, 11:30 AM–11:00 PM, Friday 11:30 AM–1:00 AM, Saturday 12:00 PM–1:00 AM, Sunday 5:00 PM–11:00 PM.
